The Dream Job/No Job Conundrum

September 25, 2017September 25, 2017 frustratednester4 Comments

Sometimes it seems like I spend more time listening to people talking about writing than doing any writing.  OK, full disclosure, over the past two months, I definitely have spent more time listening to people talking about writing than doing any writing. One of the podcasts I've found along the way is The Petal to… Continue reading The Dream Job/No Job Conundrum →

When there are 14 particularly ‘energetic’ 6 and 7 year old boys in your home, you only have time to take an ‘after’ photo. 🎂 🇩🇰 . Which is ironic, really, since right now you can read my contribution all about Danish Birthday customs over at @sarah_with_a_smile’s new blog post full of international insights! Follow the link from her bio ⬆️ to check it out, and read about customs from all over the world 🌎 . . . #danishliving #danishbirthday #fødselsdag #dannebrog #expatindenmark #myexpatlife #expatwriter #expatblogger #thefrustratednester #ExpatDreamTeam #internationalcustoms #cultureblend #legocake
✨CHRISTMAS GIVEAWAY!!✨ **Giveaway Closed** . Right, it’s time to celebrate folks!🍾 . Not just because I’m a #nanowrimo winner which means something resembling an actual memoir is on its way. 📚 . And not just because the December edition of @theinternationaldenmark is out, and becoming part of that team has been one of my huge successes of 2019.🙌 . And not just because today I’ve been invited by @sarah_with_a_smile to join her #ExpatDreamTeam (more on this later!)🤩 . But also because this week I’ve hit 500+ Instagram followers! I love these milestones so much because I don’t go looking for them, so when they come it means you’re genuinely along for the journey, wherever it will lead!🤔 . So as a thank you, for this Instagram giveaway I’m finally giving away two - TWO - copies of Life on the Move, which was published way back in June, another great 2019 success for me!🥳 . It’s that time of year when meany of us are travelling to be with family, or thinking about the family we won’t be able to see. Or, we’re thinking about that expat friend from Christmases past, who’s celebrating on another continent now, but we wish we could share one more mulled wine with her! . So, whoever you’re thinking of, tag them here in the comments, make sure you’re following @thefrustratednester on Instagram, and if you win, I’ll send BOTH OF YOU a copy of Life on the Move, wherever each of you are in the world, whether by postal system or expat express! . (It *might* arrive by Christmas, but no guarantees!) . The giveaway will run throughout the weekend, until 9pm CET on Sunday 8 Dec 2019, and I’ll draw and announce the winners Monday morning. . (For an added *bonus* entry, name at least one of the Danish festive elements from this pic! ) . (This giveaway is not sponsored, endorsed, or administered by Instagram.) . Good luck and held og lykke! . . . #giveaway #christmasgiveaway #bookstagram #bookgiveaway #expatwriting #expatstories #festivemood #celebration #hyggemood #agoodread #expatblogger #expatwriter #danishliving #lifeonthemove #lifeonthemovebook #myexpatlife #expatliving #expatfriendship #expatfamily

I took a picture of this sign so that it can make you smile the way it did me when I saw it this morning. . Full disclosure: it was in the disrobing area at the gynaecologist’s office, which was exactly the best place for it to be! 😊 Feeling very well looked-after this morning! . #smileplease #yourebeautifulwhenyousmile #sawthisandthoughtofyou #affirmation
So excited to discover a new thing in #Esbjerg today! The former Cafe Libri at the library has had a very hyggelig makeover and yesterday reopened as Nørre19 (@noerre19) ☕️ 📚 . Didn’t try the food yet but the coffee is just fine 👌and it’s good to know sustenance is available at the library again! . Tomorrow is my last uninterrupted day of #NaNoWriMo so it’s looking like a full day of writing at the library since I can now treat myself to lunch. I’ll let you know how it goes... . . . @esbjergbib #esbjerg #esbjerglibrary #hovedbiblioteket #nørre19 #esbjergeats #amwriting #esbjergexpat #esbjergblogger #hyggelife
Did you catch my article in November’s issue of The International? See a preview below and follow the link from @theinternationaldenmark to find out why I compared Esbjerg to the Wild West! 🤠 #Repost @theinternationaldenmark with @get_repost ・・・ BLAZING A TRAIL IN WILD-ISH WEST DENMARK ” On a dark Monday evening in Esbjerg, the streets are still, but in the Huset student and culture hub, there’s chemistry brewing and a buzz in the air. I’m standing in a circle with some brand-new friends, and we’re getting to know each other at headlong speed, pushing each other out of our comfort zones.” Catriona Turner, an expat from Esbjerg writes for The International. . . I painted a plate! . In all honesty pottery is not something that excites me, but Royal Copenhagen is such an institution that I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to join this painting workshop. . Swipe for the work in progress and the teacher (of 29 years’ plate-painting experience) making it look easy. . DID YOU KNOW? - The pieces shrink 15% after they’re baked (so my mistakes are now 15% less visible). - Only pieces painted by official Royal Copenhagen craftspeople have the official stamp and distinctive wave symbol painted on the back. - even in the factory in Thailand, every Royal Copenhagen piece is hand-painted: our teacher was one of the people who travels to the factories to train staff. . (And if you’re wondering why my plate isn’t blue, they do the designs in black as well, so when everyone else in the group picked blue I was able to rebel and say ‘I’ll Paint it Black’. And play the Stones in my stories. I really didn’t think the result was going to look anything like actual Royal Copenhagen anyway, but it turns out the way the teach the process makes it pretty close to the traditional design!) . . . #royalcopenhagen #danishliving #danishtradition #handmade #allmyownowrk #expatindenmark #myexpatlife #handpainted #danishsouvenir #livingdanishly @royalcopenhagen
